Introductory Certificate in Event Stewarding
The Certificate in Event Stewarding is a short course designed to prepare persons to take part effectively as a steward at an event.
This Certificate in Event Stewarding is an introduction for anyone considering a career in crowd management or event management. It is also suitable for anyone already working in the industry on a voluntary, part-time or casual basis who wishes to formalise and further develop his or her existing experience and skills. In addition, the qualification provides a basis for those who may wish to progress to further study and development.
Given the nature of the qualification, and the need to ensure its relevance to current and future legislation, the Introductory Certificate in Event Stewarding will be valid for three years from the date of issue.
A RMS Consulting Certificate is awarded on completion.
Course Aim
The aims of the qualification are to:
- Provide an introduction to the role of an Event Steward
- Enable candidates to gain a qualification, which recognises their knowledge and understanding of Stewarding duties at public events.
- Enable candidates to gain the knowledge necessary to deal with procedures specific to the event they will be Stewarding.
- Develop the knowledge and understanding of key concepts which underpin spectator control
- Provide progression towards National Occupational Standards, specifically the NVQ in Spectator Control at Level 2
- Provide a basis for further study and motivation towards career development
The core objectives of this qualification are reflected in the element titles and are for candidates to develop the knowledge and understanding to enable them to:
- Prepare for Stewarding Duties
- Identify and Deal with Hazards
- Communicate & work with the public
- Diffuse situations of conflict
- Control the entry & exit of people at events
- Deal with situations of illness/injury

Assessment
The assessment for the RMS Consulting Certificate in Event Stewarding consists of one component; a short internally set and assessed multiple choice question paper which is marked by RMS Consulting.
